You know, submit to directories is very helpful (important) for SEO. Today I help you use roboform to submit directories quickly.
Step1: Go to roboform to download this software

Step1: Download and install this software, when finish you restart your Firefox to complete, your firefox has a new toolbar's name: Roboform

Click Robofrom icon on your toolbar, select Identities -> New

Step4: Fill your field to submit

Yesterday, I read this post about google pagerank .Omar Abid said about hiss blog have PR5 after 2months. I think he true, blogspot or blog build from wordpress easy to get hight pagerank.

But, I don't degree with him if you think:

Don’t link to blog directories, don’t link to much other blogs, don’t link to links so much.
- Don’t try to get a link on other blogs this is not necessary.

If you using wordpress platform for your blog, you will easy to make a rating option for your post. But if you using blogger platform, you must use javascript to do that.( relate: Add rating for your blogger post). But now, seem Blogger will support rating tools in the future.

This ratings widget has been under a closed beta for some time but they finally made a public release today.

This template is another variation of the original template Basyc. The major change is that the Post column is placed in the middle. Plus, I made some minor code tweaking to make it a little bit different from the original template.

As usual, you need to upload a header image (900 x 200 pixels) and hide the default Blog Title and Blog Description texts. I saw some blogs that use my templates forgot to hide the Blog Title and Description texts; the header would have been much nicer if they hide these texts and made their own Title and Description texts as part of the header image graphic.

This one is pretty neat, I think. Neat and simple. You can put up a large horizontal banner as you can see in the demo page. And like the previous template I've just made, Bannr, there're flexible number of columns - either 3 or 4 columns - and you can customize each one of them easily.

If you want to upload a header image of your own, the size is 860 x 120 pixels.

Overall, i think this one is really one of the nicest one I've made, in terms of its simplicity. If you've used one of my templates before, you'll know how darn easy it is to change the whole thing into how you want it to look like.

- A forum must also permit the use of a signature file. By creating a signature, that includes your blog URL, you have a link that brings forum members back to your blog.

In your member profile, be sure to use a "signature" that includes a link back to your blog. Make certain the signature appears on all of your postings. Without that link, no new traffic can find you.

2. Tell everyone you know about your blog

This offline networking technique will bring a fresh batch of visitors to your blog. As you become more comfortable with talking to people about your blog, your traffic numbers will take a jump. Many of them will surf to your blog, to read what you have to say.

But remember, only ask your friend or relative to visit your blog, but do not mention or request them to click the ads for you. Encouragement or providing incentives to click your ads is highly prohibited under Google’s TOS. Bear that in mind!

3. Put your links on your e-mails

When you send out any e-mails, either personal or business, be sure to add a link to your blog to each and every one of them.

With a quick and easy to click hot link back to your blog, many of your e-mail recipients will drop by for a look. While not everyone will check out your blogging activities, a few will. Another source of new visitors has been added, with minimum effort.

English is not the most popular language in the world. In fact, according to many reports, the Chinese language (Mandarin) is certainly the most widely spoken language. In the internet community, the other popular language platforms are arguably Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, Malay, Italian, French, Japanese, and Korean.

Translation from English to other languages

If you have a blog written in English, it therefore makes much sense to be able to reach out to the non-English speaking population as well. There are several online translation tools, the popular free tools being AltaVista's Babel Fish translation and Google's Language Translator. WorldLingo is no longer a recommended tool, as the website translator has a translation limit of 500 words, beyond which you have to pay a monthly fee for their service.

For this site, I have used the Google Language Translator. Google is able to translate English website contents into Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. 1. For those using Blogspot, once you have logged into your Dashboard, go to Template-> Page Elements. Add a “Page Element” and select “HTML/JavaScript”.

3. If you want a slightly bigger flag, you can increase the width of the images, for example, from “30” to “36” and the height from “20” to “24”.

4. Should you come across a translation that doesn't look right, you can always suggest to Google a better translation to help them improve their translation quality.

Tweaking the CSS Code

(This is a sub-post for Step 5 from Tutorial 11: Starting Your Own Blogger Template)

This is the crucial part of designing - setting how your blog looks like. By this time the widths of all the containers inside the CSS code should have been set. What you need to know about tweaking the CSS code is that it's a recursive process - it's a process of refining that always repeats back and forth until you're 'happy' with the end result.

There are so many things to tweak and so many containers to customize. So how do you do this and where do you start? The easiest approach is to start from the top. Assuming that you're starting from an existing template, at this point you don't have to worry much about customizing the body, outer-wrapper, and content-wrapper, except the width. You can tweak these containers later (or let the existing code as default, unless you want to tweak them later). If you want to use an image as a background image of the whole template, you can also do this later.

Read Tutorial 3: The Structure of CSS Styling Section first if you're not familiar with the basics of the CSS Styling part of the code. Also remember that you should not expect your design to be perfect the first time you do it. It's a process that takes time. To know the basics of tweaking the CSS code, read Tutorial 4: Setting the Properties of a Container. And, if you don't know what containers to customize, read Tutorial 5: Common Containers and Elements in a Blogger Template .

Header:

I'd suggest you start with the Header section. What you commonly need to do here is to set the background color, set how the Blog Title and Blog Description looks like - the font, colors, font-size, etc. If you want to set a large background image as the header image, set it using the Edit Header button in the Page Elements page. The list below is from Tutorial 5 .

#header-wrapper - the container that wraps your Blog Title and Blog Description.
#header - the container just inside the header-wrapper.
#header h1 - the command inside this containers controls the appearance and layout of your Blog Title.
#header h1 a - controls the properties of the Blog Title as a link text.
#header .description - the properties of your Blog Description.
#header a img - controls the properties of an image inside your header container.

Main and Post:

The next container to tweak is the Main and Post containers (including the Post-Footer). This one will take most of your time because there's a lot of subcontainers inside it. Infact, Post is a subcontainer of Main. It's usually easiest if you tweak the subcontainers following a certain order. My suggestion is to follow the order below. The list below is from Tutorial 5 .

Main:

#main-wrapper - the container that wraps your Date Header, Blog Posts, Comments, Feed Link, and any widgets that you drag above or below the Blog Posts.
#main - the container just inside the main-wrapper.
#main .widget - controls the properties of all widgets inside the main container.
h2.date-header - sets the properties of your Date Header (just above your Post Title).
.post - sets the properties of your Blog Posts container.
.post h3 - sets the properties of your Post Title.
.post-body p - sets the properties of the body or content of your post.
.post ul - sets the properties of an unordered list (a list that is not numbered).
.post ol - controls the properties of an ordered list (a numbered list).
.post li - controls the properties of the individual list inside an unordered list or an ordered list.
a img - controls the general properties of an image (the a refers to a link; and an image is by itself a link).
blockquote - sets the quoted text in your posts.
code - sets the text contained within the code tags in your posts.

Post-Footer:

.post-footer - sets the overall properties of the post-footer container.
.post-footer-line - sets the properties for each new lines in the post-footer.
.post-footer a - sets the link text properties inside the post-footer.
.post-footer .post-comment-link a - sets the "comment" link inside the post-footer.
#blog-pager - controls the properties of the "newer posts", "home", and "older posts" links.
#blog-pager-newer-link - controls the properties of the "newer posts" link.
#blog-pager-older-link - controls the properties of the "older posts" link.
.feed-links - controls the "Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)" link.

Sidebars:

Once you're done with the above, customize the sidebar. If you have more than 1 sidebar, you may want to customize each sidebar differently. You'll also need to customize the Profile container and the Blog Archive if you want them to be different from other sidebar widgets. The list of container elements from Tutorial 5 are:

.sidebar-wrapper - the container that wraps all elements and contents in a sidebar.
.sidebar - the container just inside the sidebar-wrapper.
#sidebar1 - sets the properties inside sidebar1.
#sidebar2 - sets the properties inside sidebar2. If you want the properties inside sidebar1 and sidebar2 to be the same, than you can just the properties inside .sidebar and don't have to even write down the #sidebar1 and #sidebar2 in your CSS code.
.sidebar .widget - controls the properties of all the widgets (the Added Page Element) in your sidebar.
#sidebar1 .widget - only sets the widgets in sidebar1.
.sidebar .BlogArchive - sets the Blog Archive properties. Technically, this is a sidebar widget too, but I'm not sure why setting the properties for sidebar widgets doesn't change any properties for the Blog Archive. That's why I have to write down the .BlogArchive command to set its properties.
.sidebar h2 - sets the title/header properties of a sidebar widget.
.sidebar #BlogArchive1 h2 -sets the properties of the Blog Archive's title.
#Profile1 - sets the properties for the About Me block.
#Profile1 h2 - sets the title/header for the About Me block.
.profile-img a img - sets the image in the About Me block.
.profile-textblock - sets the author description About Me block.
.profile-data - sets the author's data in the About Me block.
.profile-datablock - sets the overall blocks of data in the About Me block.

Comments:

After the sidebars are done, customize the Comments container next. Post a few test comments to see how they will appear after tweaking. The list of container elements from Tutorial 5 are:

#comments - sets the overall comment container's properties.
#comments a - sets the link text properties inside a comment container.
#comments h4 - sets the header of the comment container.
.deleted-comment - sets the properties of the deleted comment.
.comment-author - sets the properties of the comment author.
.comment-body p - sets the comment body properties.
#comments ul - controls the unordered list inside a comment container.
#comments li - controls the individual list inside a comment container.

Footer:

The last container to be customized is the Footer. The list of container elements from Tutorial 5 are:

#footer-wrapper - the container that wraps all elements and contents inside a footer section.
#footer - the container just inside the footer-wrapper.
#footer h2 - sets the properties of the footer title/header.
#footer .widget - controls the footer widget properties.
.footer a - controls any footer link texts.

Refining Touch:

Now that you're done customizing all the containers, what you need to do is go back and take a look at your blog as a whole and do some minor tweakings. What I suggest here is you might want to change some font or background colors, font size, margins and paddings, adding borders or changing the borders colors, and so on. But when adding borders, be careful that it might change the width of the container that you're adding the borders on. If there are problems (say that the Sidebar is pushed below the Blog Post), you'll need to increase the width of the parent container that it's in.

The best way to change background and font colors is to have them as variables so that you can use the Fonts and Colors tab in the Layout page. If you're not sure how to do this, just use my Generic Blogger Template as you're starting template. It has plenty of color and font variables to start with.

Start Designing from an Existing Template

If you're a beginner in designing a template, I wouldn't advice you to build a template by writing the codes from scratch; the task is doable but will take you a longer time. So, you don't have to reinvent the wheel! The best way to go about this is by starting from something that's already out there. Choose something close to what you have in mind - for example, choose either a 2-column or 3-column template depending on what you want.

But, when you do this, I strongly urge you not to make the intention of tweaking the code just a little bit and then claiming that the final version is your own design. That is just plain WRONG and UNETHICAL. The starting template is just a starting point, an empty canvas if you will, for you to 'draw' your own template. Use the starting template with the intention that the only thing 'useful' to you are just the Body section (which sets the overall layout and the number of columns), the container titles in CSS code (e.g. #main-wrapper, .sidebar, #sidebar2, .blog-pager, etc), and some 'default' codes that should not be tampered with.

When you're selecting the initial template, I'd advice you to choose a relatively simple template to help you go through the design process easily. If you're not sure which template to start with, you can always use my Generic Blogger Template, a basic 3-column template. Tutorial 11: Starting Your Own Blogger Template

If you look at these templates - Lasik, JournallRed, and Minimalizt - you'd notice that the background is not of a plain color, but made from a repeating pattern of an image. This image is called a background image. It can be a single large image that fills up the screen or a small image (say 50 x 50 pixels) that repeats horizontally and/or vertically. The neat thing about using, or embedding, a background image is that you can create any image you like and use it in your blog to make it unique and different from other blogs.

A background image can be placed in any container - either inside the Body container (which fills up the entire screen), inside the Post, Sidebar, Comment, or even on a header container (say, a Comment Header). For example, if you look at the Minimalizt template, you'll see that the Comment Header below the post is a rounded green button - which is an image embedded inside the Comment Header.

You can also use an image to create a shadowy-looking side frame (now quite common in blogs). See the Hazy template to see how it looks. To do this, you create a short background image with a long span that fills the whole width of the template. At the right and left edge of the background image, you create the shadowy pattern (or any other pattern that you want to be the frame), and embed this inside the outer-wrapper container, repeating it vertically.

But, how to embed and how to repeat the image vertically, horizontally, or both in directions?

To Embed Background Image:

Say that you want to use a 100 x 100 pixels image as the background image inside the Sidebar1 container. What you need to do is find the sidebar1 {...} container in CSS Styling and add the following code in red (the other codes are just sample codes):

background: URL(http://the-url-of-your-image) repeat left top;
text-align: left;

The "background:..." code will embed whatever image at whatever URL you put and repeat the pattern both vertically and horizontally. The location of the starting image will be on the left-most side, and at the top-most position. The general command for embedding a background image is:



background: URL(http://...) repeat-command x-position y-position;

All Repeat Command:

no-repeat (the image won't be repeated at all)
repeat (repeat horizontally and vertically)
repeat-x (only repeats horizontally)
repeat-y (only repeats vertically)

All Horizontal (x) Position Command:

left (puts the starting image on the left-most side)
center (puts the starting image at the center)
right (puts the starting image on the right-most side)

All Vertical (y) Position Command:

top (puts the starting image on the top-most position)
center (puts the starting image at the center)
bottom (puts the starting image on the bottom-most position)

Now that you've gone through all the tutorials, you're pretty much ready to start designing your own template. In this guide, I'll show you the big steps that you have to go through to make a template the fast and easy way.

The first thing you need to understand about designing a template is that the technique of designing is unique and different between individuals. In the end, it's entirely up to you how you want to do it - if and only if you're familiar and have made a few templates yourself. But if you're just beginning, it's best to follow a step-by-step guide to expedite the process and so that you won't get lost.

Step 1 - Choose an already-made template as a starting point:

For beginners, the easiest and fastest way to start designing is by starting from an existing template. But don't do it with the intention of plagiarizing it! Read more in the sub-post Start Designing from an Existing Template .

Step 2 - Setting the number and location of your sidebar columns:

If you're a beginner, make sure you start with a template that closely resembles the template that you have in mind. For example, if you want to do a 3-column template, don't start with an existing 2-column template. Or, if you want to change or add more sidebars yourself, read more about how to do it in Tutorial 10: Making a 3-Column Template and More ...

Step 3 - Setting the width of your template:

The first thing you need to do after getting a starting template is to set the width of your template. To do this, you need to set the width in the CSS Style code. It's all explained in detail in Tutorial 7: Setting the Template Size. The common containers to set the widths are:

body
outer-wrapper
content-wrapper
header-wrapper
main-wrapper
sidebar-wrapper (or sidebar1, sidebar2, and so on)
footer-wrapper

You can either set the width to be fluid (changes its width accordingly with the browser or screen size) or set the width to be fixed. Note that setting the width inside the container-wrapper can be a bit tricky because you have the Main and Sidebar containers in it. If the width is not set well, the Sidebars can fall below the Main container.

Step 4 - Build test objects:

If you're designing a new template, how do you know that what you're tweaking is right if you can't see the changes? So, what you need to do here is build some test objects - for example post 3 or more test posts that have a quote, a numbered list, un-numbered list, make lots of widgets to see how the sidebars look like, make sure you have some Labels to show up in your Labels widget, make some test comments to see how they look, and so on.

Step 5 - Tweaking the CSS code to customize your blog's appearance:

Here is where you start tweaking the CSS code to customize the basic layout of your blog and slowly refining it until you have the template that you want. It's a process that keeps you going back and forth re-tweaking codes because you won't usually get things perfect the first time. Read more detail in the sub-post Tweaking the CSS Code .

Step 6 - Testing in other browsers:

This step can get really annoying, but like they say, you've got to do what you've got to do. Read more in the sub-post Testing and Viewing in Other Browsers .

Step 7 - Using images as background:

If you're bored of using plain color, you can use nicer images as the background of the whole blog or the background of some of the containers (e.g. the Post, Sidebar, Footer, Header, etc). To learn how to do this, click on Tutorial 12: How to Embed Images as Background .

Step 8 (The Final Step) - Finalizing your template:

This step is like the proof-reading stage of your writing. You just need to go through one last step to double check that everything works fine and okay. Look at your blog carefully and see if some minor tweaking will make it look better.

Testing and Viewing in Other Browsers

Personally, I don't like the stage of testing in other browsers. It's annoying that other browsers might show your blog differently than the blogs you're designing it in. But if you want all to have access to your blog and see it as nicely as you've designed it, then you have to go through this process. As for my blog and my demo blogs, I designed them in Firefox and tested in IE7. I've received comments that people using IE6 have some trouble with the templates, but I didn't test them in IE6, and not about to trouble myself downloading IE6 and debugging the codes. The way I see it, if Firefox and IE7 get it right, then it's IE6 that's got the problem (not my templates) and it's IE6 that has to debug itself. Anyway, isn't that why IE7 is made in the first place?

Personally, I think Firefox is by far above all. If you're not using Firefox, I suggest you download them right now - it's free, fast, not too crowded with useless buttons, lightweight, and just plain great. And if you're using IE6 and don't want to upgrade to IE7 because your computer is not fit enough to take the load, but you know that viewing blogs is prone to bugs - then Firefox should be the way to go. Plus, the download is quick, the upgrading is efficient and fast, and there's a lot more to this - but I'll just let you see them on your own. So, if you want to get rid of IE and use Firefox instead, the download button is on the sidebar...

I don't really have a tip for debugging. You just have to be patient and solve the problems one by one. The way I avoid problems is by writing a stricter code so they won't have a chance to flip flop or get 'loose'. If you want, you can start designing a template starting from any of my own templates. That way, you can maintain the part of the CSS code that's there to avoid any bugs in different browsers. But I can't guarantee they're 100% bug-free!

One of the most basic desires after becoming a Blogger's blogger and using the standard template for a while is having the urge to find a 3-column template. So, here's a simple and straight-forward tutorial on how to do this yourself without going through too much of code tweaking.

This tutorial is prepared assuming you understand the stuff covered in Tutorial 8 and Tutorial 9, which explain the basics of the Body section of the code.

What we'll be doing to change or add sidebars is simply tweaking the XML code directly from the Blogger Edit HTML page WITHOUT turning the Expand Widget Templates on. This means that the Body section at the end of the code won't be shown cluttered with detailed algorithms for widgets and post data. It'll be as simple as it can be, which is definitely a good thing :).

Adding a Sidebar to Make a 3-column Template:

When you scroll down to the Body section, the code might have something that looks close to this example below (note that you can have slightly different variations of this code for different templates):

Example of a 2-column template:

The above shows a 2-column-template code within a wrapper called the content-wrapper which contains the main-wrapper (which contains the Blog Posts) and the sidebar-wrapper.

To make another sidebar, what you need to do is simply go to the Edit HTML page and without turning on the Expand Widget Templates box, paste another block of sidebar-wrapper code (shown above in red) before or after the main-wrapper block. For example, to make the Sidebar-Main-Sidebar column, place it before the main-wrapper. Notice in the example below that the id of the 1st sidebar-wrapper is sidebar1 and the id of the 2nd one is sidebar2.

Note: You also have to make sure that the width of both Sidebars and the Main blocks will fit inside the content-wrapper and that the CSS code is properly written for the Sidebars to lay next to each other. Some common mistakes are that one or both Sidebars will fall below the Main block.

Example of a 3-column S-M-S template:

Changing the Sidebar Location:

If you want to change a sidebar location to make a 3-column template with a configuration of Main-Sidebar-Sidebar for example, what you need to do is place the sidebar-wrapper block where you want it to appear.

To do this, simply go to the Edit HTML page and without turning on the Expand Widget Templates box, cut the 1st sidebar-wrapper code and paste it in between the main-wrapper and sidebar2 blocks. See the sample code below:

In this tutorial I'll explain a bit more about some special commands that you'll see in the Body section of the code. Here's the sample code again below:

By default, each container has to be wrapped with the div tag and a b:section tag. Each div and b:section is 'named' with an identifier using the id command. The can be further classified into a 'class' using the class command. This identification and classification are useful as a reference when you want to style it later using CSS. In the CSS code, the id command is referred to using the # symbol and the class command is referred to using the . symbol. For example, in the CSS code, you might see #main-wrapper {...} or .sidebar {...} which are the codes to style the main-wrapper and sidebar. You can read further about these identification and classification in w3schools.com

Everything wrapped inside the b:section are the widgets (also called the Page Element). For example, inside the Header is a widget named Header1. Note that this widget contains the code maxwidgets='1' showaddelement='no'. The maxwidgets='1' means that the maximum widget the header-wrapper can have is 1 only. That means you can't drag a Page Element and place it below or above the Header. The showaddelement='no' means that the Add a Page Element button will not appear in the Header section.

In the main-wrapper, you only have the showaddelement='no' code which means that you won't have the Add a Page Element button there, but you can still drag other widgets and place it above or below the Blog Posts inside the main-wrapper.

In the sidebar-wrapper, you have the preferred='yes' code. This command will create the Add a Page Element button for you to add widgets. Plus, you won't have any limitations on how many widgets you want to add. As you already know, you can always drag the widget to any other wrapper as long as they don't limit the amount of widgets to be displayed in that wrapper.

In the footer-wrapper, there's no code following the id command. This means that you won't have the Add a Page Element button but you can drag any widgets into the Footer section.

In this tutorial, I'll explain the basic structure of the Body of the code so that you get the idea on how it works with the rest of your code. The code is located in Section 3 of the Blogger Template Code Structure . This is the main part of the Blogger template code that retrieves the data to be displayed on your blog. It's basically the core part that makes your whole blog functions. The code that sets how it appears on your blog is the CSS Styling code.

Refering back to the tutorial Blogger Template Code Structure, the Body code is in Section 3 as shown in the image below.

Shown below is the Body code copied exactly from the Blogger Edit HTML page with the 'Expand Widget Button' unchecked. I do not want to include the complete code by checking the 'Expand Widget Button' for 2 reasons. First, it's not necessary to do this. You actually don't even have to know what goes on inside the complete code to be able to design a properly working Blogger template. That's all been done 'automatically' by Blogger, which is the beauty of using this new Blogger template as oppose to the old classic ones. Second, by looking at this simpler version of the code, you'll be able to grasp easier the main idea of how all the containers in the template are laid out.

For simplicity, ignore the code in light grey. They are either comments or 'default' codes to make things work properly that doesn't need to be tampered with. The core part of the codes can be sectioned into 4 parts:

Header (in red)
Main (in green)
Sidebar (in red)
Footer (in brown)

You'll see in the above that all the codes are first wrapped in the body tag, followed by the outer-wrapper tag, then the wrap2 tag. These wrappers are used to group the containers together so that they can be easily editted together. Using wrappers also make placing the containers much easier especially if you want to use additional sidebars or extra containers (such as a banner or linkbar containers as in most of my templates). In the explanation below, I'll only refer to the outer-wrapper as the larger wrapper without referring at all to the wrap2 wrapper. They're just the same (I'm not even sure why the wrap2 is there in the first place).

Inside this large container, you'll see 3 wrappers - header-wrapper, content-wrapper, and footer-wrapper. They are positioned vertically with the header-wrapper being at top and the footer-wrapper being at the bottom. It's simply because in the code, the header-wrapper is called first, followed by the content-wrapper, and finally the footer-wrapper. At this point, you don't even have to know what's inside the content-wrapper - this makes it much cleaner and easier as oppose to not having the content-wrapper and having to deal with the main-wrapper and sidebar-wrapper together all at once. It'll be a big mess then.

Because the outer-wrapper is the largest wrapper, you have to make sure that the widths of all the other wrappers inside it is less or at least equal to the outer-wrapper's width. But, if you add borders, that'll add extra pixels to whichever wrapper that you're adding the borders too. So be careful when adding borders!

Adding a new wrapper (container) in between any of these wrappers is easy. Just paste in a wrapper code (see below for example) and rename it with a new name, say a banner-wrapper. The preferred='yes' command will make an 'Add Page Element' button that'll allow you to create new widgets.

Adding a wrapper only creates a new container, or block, in your blog. In doesn't set how it's going to look or where it's going to be located. To customize how it looks and where it's located in the blog, you NEED to tweak the CSS codes.

Inside the content-wrapper, you have the main-wrapper and sidebar-wrapper. To have these two wrappers side-by-side as commonly seen in blogs, you have to set the widths of these 2 wrappers such that it's equal or less than the width of the content-wrapper. Plus, you have to add certain commands in the CSS Styling code so that they'll sit next to each other. Otherwise, they'll just fall vertically on top of one another. Typically, you need to use the 'float:left' command for this. See some template examples to check more on this. If you want to add more sidebars, say a 3-column template, you simply need to add more sidebar-wrapper code (in blue). Read more in Tutorial 10 to know how to add or change sidebars.

Once you've understood the basic idea behind the Body code, it's easy to see now why the common structure of the Blogger template code looks the way it is (see below for a 3-column example). If you want to rearrange or add new containers or wrappers, what you simply need to do is to modify the Body of the code. It's that easy! But then, you have to tweak the CSS code to set how it's gonna look in the blog.

Positioning:
You need to add your Adsense links right in the heart of your template or right in the heart of your content.

Link Units:
Since the introduction of Google Adsense "link units", we can now add what looks like a "menu system" to compliment our menu system within our website. This is HUGE. Have you ever just clicked on a website and kept clicking on the menu links? I know we all have. By adding a "Google link units" to your menu, you will get more clicks than you thought possible. Leaderboards & Skyscrapers:

Anywhere else may not look proper within your template and may look unprofessional.

Square & Rectangle Ad Units:
These are great to compliment the mass amount of content within your website and also within your recommended resources. You want to compliment your content, you don't want Adsense to BE your content because this will look poor on your part. Square and rectangular units are great to use within articles posted on your website or within your link resources. Guide for Google AdSense Publishers

If you are a regular visitor to my site, you might have noticed some changes in the style. Well, I drew most of the inspiration from the picture above also known as the "heat map".

This “heat map” illustrates ideal ad placements on a sample page layout. Google folk have published an elaborate Optimization Tips page for Google Adsense publishers.

Looking at my recent adsense statistics, I must admit that the above illustration is fairly nice. The colors fade from dark orange (strongest performance) to light yellow (weakest performance). All other things being equal, ad placements above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page.

Google has done an impressive presentation to woo new Adsense Publishers.

Adsense for Content remains my primary source of revenue from this blog. I do not use "Adsense for Search" as Googlebot doesn't index my site too well. Yahoo! spiders do a better job, atleast in my case.

I have seen quite a lot of AdSense publishers posted in different forums stating that their AdSense accounts were banned by Google due to fraudulent clicks. Most of these people claim that they are innocent and have never clicked on their on AdSense ads. So they have no idea why click fraud can occur on their AdSense accounts. The truth is click fraud can happen in several ways and not necessarily caused by the AdSense publisher himself/herself who accidentally clicked on his/her own AdSense.

Below are some of the tips to protect your AdSense account:

1) Do not use autosurf programs to promote your websites that contain AdSense. Autosurf programs can substantially increase your website traffic or hits, AdSense page view and ecpm but people who surf your site only to earn advertising credit or other type of incentives. So the traffic generated from autosurf programs aren't counted as real and thus against AdSense policies.

2) If possible, do not involve in any traffic exchange networks and programs. 5 Tips to Boost Your Adsense Revenue

Google AdSense program has made it easier for webmasters to make money through a website. Webmasters who run an AdSense campaign will display Google's contextual Ads relevant to the content of their sites and thus encouraging visitors to click the ads and earn money for each ad click.

They will provide you with statistics like the number of blogs that link to you. You can also invite other members to favorite your blog.

Wikablog

If you are familiar with Wikipedia, this is the equivalent for blogs. It faces the same problems as Wikipedia i.e., while it is easy to list your blog, it is equally easy for others to edit your listing. 1) google page rank, higher the page rank the better it is. Page rank starts from 0 and goes to 10. page rank 4-6 should be considered decent. Google pagerank is found in the google toolbar. Though it is not all that accurate, so perhaps checking the pr from data centers are a better idea.

2) Backlinks are important, but geting backlinka involves a lot of work.

3) Unique content and fresh content.

If you get backlinks and fresh content, google page rank will go up, so let’s talk about the backlinks first. These are a few methods to get backlinks,

1) Article submission : it is one of the easiest ways to get backlinks. Just write a quality article, and submit it to as many article submission websites as you can. And add your website’s link in the article. This is how you get easy and free backlinks. Remember to check the page rank, as higher page rank article submission sites, are the best to get some quality backlinks. Remember this is contextual links, so this traffic is absolutely targeted, so it is adviced to write articles of the same category as the link in it.

2) Directory submission : I don’t recommend the free directories, as there are too many links. If you go for the free directories, then don't submit all in one day, do it slowly so that the search engines don't detect a lot of links at once! Too many links are link farms and it can get your site blacklisted by google and other search engines. Try the paid directories, must be pr3+ else it is pretty much waste of time. Some of my favorites are alive, aviva, v7n, gii etc!

3) Link exchange : this is another free method, but don’t do this too much. Find high pagerank websites, that are of the same category of your website. Then do link exchange with them. Do this with caution, and remember not to have more than 5% of your incomming links from link exchange, else it will hurt the rankings.

4) Buy links : well, one of the most easiest ways of getting quality backlink is buying links. You need to be careful to buy link, try getting links from pr4+ sites and get it from the home page. This is the best way, as you get quality one sided links. But then matt's recent blogs are a bit against it, so perhaps doing this safely will be a lot better. Don't put paid links or sponsored links in your sites. Do not actively sell or buy links.

You must optimize your keywords also. So for that, whenever you buy links or do link exchange, use your most important keyword to hiperlink your URL. This way your keywords importance in the search engines will increase. This is known as anchor text optimization. It is the best Seo technique.

Meta tags are very important, keep proper Meta tags in the head of your web site, following Meta tags much be present in your pages if you want to get higher rank and better traffic from the search engines:

1) keywords = must be around 120-150 characters long. 50% of your keywords and key phrases must be on your web site’s content, else it will be considered as keyword spamming. This is not the most important meta tags, these days search engines are more or less ignoring the keywords, so am repeating, that please don’t put up keywords that are not part of your page’s content.

2) Description: this is a very important Meta tags, when the site’s don’t have much contents, the meta description is used by the search engines to determine what type of site it is. This one must be around 150-175 characters, not more than that.

These little things make huge difference for your search engine rankings and search engine traffic. Seo is all about helping the search engines, not finding way to cheat it. Try making nice websites, so that you visitors like them, and come back whenever they want more information.

Then next point is unique content and fresh content. These are two things that are very much necessary to make a successful site. You need quality unique content, and then you need to add these contents everyday. You can bring search engines crawlers by a lot of methods, but then only if you have quality unique content then your site will have better position in the search engines. High page rank and lot’s more depends on the content. So start writing and write, as often you want. Perhaps this is one of the major reasons that blogs works better than most websites.

After doing up nice websites with interesting contents, the webmasters' dilemma is usually one of attracting visitors to their sites. Having more visitors is gratifying; it is a reward that website owners deserve for putting time and effort into their sites.

Traffic exchange networks were designed to promote visitor traffic to websites or blogs. The idea is simple – members of the network surf each other's sites. Upon setting up an account with a traffic exchange program, you will be entitled to earn 'credits' by manually surfing other members' sites. Depending on the program, you may have anything between 0.5 to 1.0 credit for every site you visit. There is a timer at the top or bottom frame of the page to compel you to remain at the site for a period of time. This can range between 10 to 30 seconds. You are then required to click one of the images to correspond with the given image in order to proceed to the next random site. This is to prevent autosurfing hacks that may cheat the system.

With the 'credits' you earn, you can assign them to your blogs. For every visitor you get to your blog, 1 credit will be deducted until all your 'credits' are spent. In a nutshell, the more blogs you visit, the more visitors you get to your blogs.

Alas, no program is perfect. While the concept of traffic exchange sounds good, there are the negative aspects that you should consider as well. I'll summarize the good and bad points of traffic exchange.

Pros of traffic exchange

1. The programs are free, that is if you are not buying the 'credits' but earning them.

2. For some programs, you can specify the category of blogs you would like to view or the sort of visitors you would like to have. The traffic is therefore targeted.

3. While viewing other member blogs, you may come across a couple of interesting ones that you can re-visit or learn from.

4. Since the programs work well only if they have a wide network of members, the administrators often conduct mini contests and games to interest the members. You may find some fun in these communities.

Cons of traffic exchange

1. The biggest negative point is that such traffic exchanges run counter to many advertising programs, especially those that pay you based on impressions you get to your site. A notable one is Google AdSense. If your site's traffic is mainly through traffic exchanges, be prepared to receive reminders like this from the Google administrator:-

“It has come to our attention that invalid clicks or impressions have been generated on the Google ads on your site(s) through users of third-party programs paid or provided with other incentives to visit your site. Such programs may include, but are not limited to auto-surf, pay-to-surf, pay-to-read, or pay-to-click sites.”

2. A number of the sites that register with traffic exchanges are new sites and are not worth the time reading. Many of the established ones that have a good following of readers do not need such traffic exchange programs to boost their traffic.

3. After surfing for a while, you would also find yourself looking at the same sites over and over again, simply because only a fraction of the members are active users. It may be boring in that sense.

4. While I make it a point to read some sites, I believe that many people don't. They may be doing their homework or watching television, and mindlessly clicking the image after every 30 seconds or so. You may be getting more visitors but these are not the people who appreciate your blog contents.

Blog Traffic Exchange sites

If you want to have a go at it, here are the ones I think you can consider.

Blogmad

This has a 1:1 ratio, which means that for every site you visit, someone will visit yours. The surf timer is 25 seconds and the site layout, ideas, and image icons (with the two big eyes) are pretty nice.

Blog Explosion

The surf ratio is 2:1, i.e. for every two blogs you visit, one person will visit yours. The saving grace is that they have about close to 50,000 blogs registered, although I have an inkling that only a small percentage of these are active. They do run contests like Battle of the Blogs which add to the fun of using their service.

Blog Soldiers

Another 2:1 ratio traffic exchange. Nothing fanciful about the site, and the administrators should do more work to build up their membership base.

Blog Advance

Their surf ratio of 1:1 sounds attractive, and like a few other programs, they throw in free bonus points when you log in or surf. What I didn't like was their lack of response. I raised a technical problem concerning adding a site and despite 2 messages, they have not replied. Such a contradiction to their statement that “at Blog Advance your voice doesn't fall on deaf ears.” Also, I received error messages on a few occasions despite having clicked the correct surfbar images and was unable to proceed to subsequent blogs. I guess there are unresolved bugs in the coding of their program. (Update: This service is no longer available and link is therefore removed.)

TrafficG

This is not blog specific, and you will see a number of non-blog websites. The ratio of 1:1 is good, and the longer surf time of 30 seconds means that you might get more quality traffic, people who browse your blog contents.

Blogazoo

They have a 4:3 ratio, and credit incentives to read blogs and find the 'gazoos'.

Linkreferral

I happened to come across this site last week. Essentially, when you register your blog with them, other members can review your site, give a rating and post comments. The more sites you visit or review, the higher your blog rank will be, and the more likely that your blog will be seen by others. Unlike the other programs, you will expect visitors to go through what you write in order to review your blog.

Tips for Using BlogRush to Generate Traffic for Your Blog

As I’ve been pondering the new BlogRush traffic building service over the last few hours I am increasingly thinking that it has potential to help bloggers find new traffic.

The bones are there for it to work - but how can you leverage it to increase your chances of converting for you and squeeze out some extra traffic for your blog. A few ideas (all untested at this stage) come to mind:

1. Optimize Your Titles - there are a number of things that will increase the chances of getting someone to click on a link appearing in someone else’s blog - but the title of your post will be most important. You have around 40 characters only to play with (before the widget cuts off your title) so think carefully about what you’re communicating about your post - particular in the first few words.

2. Choose the Right Category for Your Blog - when you sign up you’re given a list of categories to assign your blog to. My hope is that BlogRush will add more (as the more focused they become the more relevant ads will be). If your blog spans a couple of categories run with one for a few days and then swap to the other. I suspect that some categories will out perform others significantly due to the type of readers that they have and their tech savvyness.

3. Promote it Early on - this system is one that will be most beneficial to early adopters. While some are already spamming their referral links out to other bloggers via mass emails - one way to promote it and possibly pick up a few extra referrals is simply to place it in a reasonably prominent position on your blog and even to draw attention to it in a post. If some of your readers have blogs they’re likely to check it out too - which will exponentially increase the benefits for you. Just be aware that if you get spammy with your promotion of this (or any) service you could actually do more harm than good to your blog.

I’m sure there will be more tips - but my suspicion is that titles will be particularly key in the success or failure of BlogRush for many.

How to develop a stylish Wordpress-Theme from scratch? Some insights from Elena:

“Creating a Wordpress Theme isn’t easy but I can’t call it yet a NASA Job. The theme I created for Smashing Magazine was a special task for me because I read this magazine every time they have something new so I wanted to give something back.

After I found out what Smashing Magazine team expects from this theme I got started by selecting the color palette. After this point I created the layout style and placed the background straps modular along with the layout areas. This choice was motivated by the fact that Smashing Magazine is a feed, a flux of information represented by the size and colors of the straps. Colors are — of course — inspired by the Smashing Magazine logo.

Every designer who creates a free theme must know the importance of the AdSense integration in the layout; therefore I’ve divided the content area in 3 sections (columns). Each of them for a specific AdSense unit (468 x 60), (180×150), (160×600).

In my themes I always try to make a clear visual separation between the Posting area and the Widget zone (2nd and the 3rd column). In this case I achieved this effect by creating a strong visual contrast: white for the written post (to ensure the optical silence for readers) and colorful/darker areas (active vibrant content motivates users to click on those surfaces) for the numerous categories, links etc.

Another fact which I care about is the space around the main content (posting area). The flux of information must breathe, so a 20/30px white space between information units is necessary. The space left between the different areas must be used as a module, repeating the spaces in key zones of the layout.

One of the most difficult tasks in designing a theme is to find a style for it. A unique style helps a blog to stand out from simplistic and minimalistic designs. I don’t have anything against minimalist style, but as a designer I feel I can express myself in a more colorful way.

The Smashing theme has a plug-in integrated into the functions.php, so modifying this file you should have some basic knowledge about PHP. The theme is Widget Ready.

Have you heard of these advertisements before? "Free submission of your Blog or Website to 1000 Blog Directories or 1000 Search Engine Directories or 1000 RSS Directories. " All you need to do is sign up by providing your name and email address. Others will even ask you your home address and will require a telephone number.

Because you are new to blogging, and that you have heard from other bloggers that you should submit your blog to different directories to improve your traffic, you applied for the free submission without giving a second thought. Worse, you gave your real name, your real address, email address and your mobile phone.

After you submitted your blog from a website that promises your blog to be included to 1000 Blog, Search Engine or RSS Directories, you've waited expecting that your blog's traffic will increase. After a week or so you've found out that your email has been receiving tons of spams and junk mails. From time to time, you've been receiving anonymous calls from companies promoting their products and services. And all of a sudden, your mailbox is full of letters much of which is advertisement. Did you ask for it? Sure you did but you weren't aware of it. In the end, your mails and incoming calls have increased but the traffic to your blog did not. Very sad, isn't it?

Is it possible that these websites can submit my Blog to 1000 Directories?

SURE IT IS POSSIBLE… but they need to do it manually. However, with the thousands of requests they receive everyday, do you think they can do it? "But they said they have an effective software program that will submit my blog to 1000 Directories." Come on, no one will advertise a product saying that it will not work. Scammers are known to promise spectacular benefits but they never really exist.

Why is it impossible to submit your URL to 1000 Directories using a software program?

Let me answer this question by looking at the submission process itself. Firstly, the submission process to blog directories, RSS directories or search engine directories, varies from one to another. And with the large number of directories imagine how broad the variance is. With this alone, it would be impossible to create a program that allows you to submit a URL to all these directories given the variances in the submission process. Secondly, when you register to a certain directory, you are required to provide

1. Title for your Blog
2. Description for your Blog
3. Other directories might require you to provide Keywords or Keyphrases associated to your blog. (Software cannot do these.)

Lastly, most registrations to directories these days require you to verify your registration by entering a random variable to make sure that your registration is done by a human not a robot or software program. See? Even directories do not like automated registration. Certainly, all these reasons make it impossible for anyone to create a program that to accommodate such complex procedure.

Assuming without conceding that these programs work, it is not still advisable that you avail of it. Robots or software programs cannot think on their own so they cannot choose the best category for your blog, they cannot give a comprehensive description of your blog and lastly, these programs cannot help in the optimization of blog. It will infact do more harm to your blog than you think.

The Only Best Alternative

I'm sorry but the only best alternative is for you to register your blog manually. This means, you need to spend time to do it but only through this way will you be able to fully maximize the benefits of getting your blog registered to different directories. http://www.yourdomain.com/your-keywords-here.html is an SEO-friendly URL but http://www.yourdomain.com/page2.html is not. Although it is not necessary — it does help sometimes — to have your keywords in your domain name, the search engines do look for your keywords in your URL. Also, some people don’t insert their own anchor text and post your hyperlinked URL as it is, so even in that case your keywords automatically appear as the anchor text of an inbound link.

Use proper anchor texts in internal linking

Internal linking is very important because it creates a web of links under your domain and when the bots visit your website there is a less chance of any link being left uncrawled. Use your keywords and key phrases as anchor texts so the search engines know, one, that these keywords are important to warrant a dedicated link, and two, what is the context of the pages they are leading to.

Blog regularly

Blogging is not just an activity these days, it’s a necessity. It helps you build a dedicated community around your field. From an SEO point of view, most blog posts, if well-written, are very quickly indexed by the search engines. If you stick to your niche and write regularly, you soon begin to rank higher for your keywords. Once your blog is ranked higher, your business link on your blog too will get the benefit of being linked by a highly ranked website

Get links from other websites

Do not just depend on the search engines to get traffic: include other websites in your SEO strategy too. This will not only send you quality traffic from those websites, it’ll also give you an SEO boost, provided those websites are “respected” by the search engines. Make sure the incoming links from these websites carry your keywords as anchor text. Also try to see that all incoming links are voluntary, that they are there due to the overall quality of your content.

Commit yourself and be patient

SEO is a long drawn battle if you haven’t got hundreds of thousands of bucks to spend on it. It’s a slow process and the more attention you pay to the smaller things, the better are your chances of getting ranked higher by the search engines.

Submit to online directories To Boost Your SEO

Submitting to online directories is a great way to boost your SEO because most of these directories — some standard one, not all — are respected by the search engines in their respective fields. In June this year I wrote about how important it is to submit your website to online directories. Online directories like Yahoo! and DMOZ are human-edited directories and hence websites included in these directories are considered thoroughly validated by the search engines.

Use your keywords in the heading tags

Some SEO experts these days attach less importance to heading tags because there are many who exploit them, but I think they are the best of way of summing your web page content both to the readers and the search engines. The keywords in the heading tags (h1, h2, etc.) tell the search engines that these keywords really matter to your web page and hence this web page should be ranked higher for these keywords.

Use Your Keywords in the Page Title

Actually this is one of the most important things you can do to boost your SEO. Many websites I have seen appear on the first page of the SERPs (search engine result pages) simply because they have the right keywords in their page titles. The keywords in your page title tell the search engines exactly what that particular page contains.

Keep Your Documents Updated

The search engines love new content. The more you add, the more you modify, with greater frequency they crawl your website. Continuously keep adding newer pages to your website and keep updating the existing pages. This not only gives the search engines more pages to index it also conveys to them that yours is a highly active, and evolving website.

Maintain a Sitemap

A sitemap is a page containing links to all your major sections and pages. It’s kind of a linking roadmap that tells both your human visitors and the search engine crawlers what all is there on your website. In fact a sitemap saves the search engine crawlers lots of time because very quickly they can access all your links. On a second thought, why do you want to help the search engine crawlers save time? This is because they allocate only a certain amount of crawling time to a website and within that time if they cannot index your important pages you lose some great opportunities of appearing on the search engine result pages.

Keep Your Markup Clean

Clean, error-free source code makes it easier for the search engines to go through your web pages. Use the W3C Markup Validation Service to make sure that your markup complies with the latest web design standards. A website with clean markup loads fast, it is mostly accessible to all the standard browsers, and doesn’t create hurdles for the crawlers

Importance of submitting to Web Directories

The fundamental difference between a search engine and a web directory is that a search engine spiders the Internet to look for new web pages and then indexes the web links according the relevance it attaches to those links. In a web directory on the other hand, you submit your links manually under a suitable category. Then those links are reviewed by human editors and accepted or rejected according to what they think of your link.

More and more web directories these days are hiring trained and experienced reviewers who evaluate the submitted links and then put them under the appropriate categories. This tremendously reduced the job of the search engines because any given day, human-reviewed links are far more trustable than the software-reviewed links.

So how are web directory submissions and search engine rankings related?

The search engines taking many factors into account while ranking your website. A few of them are:

How relevant is the content of your website?
How is that content organised?
How much relevant content you have?
How is the navigation and inter-linking on your website organised?
How many relevant outgoing links you have and what anchor texts you have used?
How many incoming/inbound links you have from external websites, and how well do those websites rank on various search engines?

The last point comes into force when you submit your link to various web directories. While submitting your link to a web directory you should be careful about its PageRank. If it its PageRank is healthy then it means the search engines regard it as a “trustable” web directory. Some of the highly ranked web directories are:

Open Directory Project/DMOZ - A highly rated web directory that is free. When you submit your website it is reviewed by an impartial volunteer and then, if accepted, included under the appropriate directory.
Yahoo! — Yes, it is a directory too. They charge a hefty annual amount (more than $300) but if they accept your website (the payment is not a guarantee of acceptance) it pays great dividends.
LookSmart - A general web directory that can make your website visible on its network websites such as MSN, ABOUT.com, Netscape, Inktomi, Info Space and Cnet.

Why should you submit your website to web directories?

You may wonder why take all this trouble to submit to web directories when it is better to focus on search engines? Well, first of all the search engines voraciously consume information on these web directories because the links over there are already validated.

Second, since all the major web directories are well-ranked on various search engines they attract lots of traffic through the search engine result pages. Many people, hard pressed on time, directly go to web directories rather than the search engines because all the websites are listed under appropriate categories and hence it is easier to find the right links there. You can get lots of direct traffic from these web directories. In fact direct traffic from web directories is highly relevant because people click your link under the appropriate category or sub-category.

Directories are a great way to accumulate valuable links, build credibility and boost your website’s visibility.

This is a step-by-step guide to automatically place a real-time Digg count and vote button to every single blog post. Digg is a social content website where your readers or you can submit content to. If you have a good story, members will 'digg' the post and write comments. As a blog owner, you may want to make it easy for and encourage your readers to submit and digg your articles.

Before you do that though, you would want to take note of the following:-

1. Your blog should be set to save Post Pages. Post Pages are archived blog posts published to their own web page. Each post will have a unique URL, which is required by Digg for the individual posts to be submitted. To verify or enable it, login to your Blogger Dashboard. Under Settings-> Archiving, set the “Enable Post Pages?” to “Yes” and save the settings.

2. This template hack will put a Digg button to every post. You are therefore not able to choose which post you want to include or exclude a button. If you would prefer to have a Digg button added only to some posts, read the later part of this article on “Button for selective posts.”

3. The code reads the URL of the individual blog page and this shall be the URL used for submission of the story to Digg.

Under “Template”, click the “Edit HTML” tab. Block copy the entire HTML code for your site and save it in a text file. This is one of the two necessary steps whenever you want to change the template. The second step is of course to “Preview” the new changes, and save the changes only when you are satisfied. The backup you have saved in a text file will come in handy when you accidentally click to save the changes without previewing them. With a backup, you can easily restore the template to the prior state if need be.

Click the box next to “Expand Widget Templates”. Scroll about two-thirds down the template to look for the code that reads:-
